Hey!
My name is David. I’m a 3rd year reentry student majoring in Math at UC Berkeley. I’m also an EMT with urban 911, CCT, and austere / wilderness experience, an avid athlete, and massive nerd about all things physiology and toxicology.
I have never been one of those people who are “good” at school. I’ve struggled with ADHD and insomnia throughout my life, and these challenges have made academic success particularly difficult. When I first came to UC Berkeley, I did not have the resources, tools, or support I needed to be academically successful. It was a long and difficult road to discover the tools and strategies that I needed to change that.
As my own strategies and skills improved, I continued to watch so many of my peers struggling with the same challenges. It just seemed plain wrong to me that anyone could have the desire to learn, and the willingness to work hard, and yet that not be enough for them to achieve academic success. I founded Circle of Willis with the belief that any student possessing those two qualities should be able to achieve academic success. I provide all support free of charge because I strongly believe academic success shouldn’t be predicated on financial ability.
Once I graduate from UC Berkeley, I plan to pursue a post-baccalaureate program to complete the necessary requirements so that I can apply to medical school, with a goal of becoming an ER doctor.
I’m incredibly passionate about education, and advocating for students that don’t fit well into the traditional classroom environment. If you’d like to get involved, or if you’re a student or educator that doesn’t need specific support but would just like to chat further about these topics, please reach out!
